(www.culture.in.mk, 24.10.2005) - “The Eighth Wonder of the World,” a book by Jordan Plevnes is the renowned playwright’s first novel, which he published in 2005.
Macedonian-born Jordan Plevnes (1953), who lives and works in Paris, has established international reputation by writing in Macedonian and French. Plevnes’ plays: “Erigon,” “R,” “The Underground Republic,” “Happiness Is a New Idea in Europe,” “The Last Man, Last Woman,” have been performed and published in around 50 countries throughout Europe and the world. “The Eighth Wonder of the World” is his first novel.
A Balkan initiative for a lyrical tragic-comic flight, “The Eighth Wonder of the World” is a story about the construction of an Eighth Wonder of the World, a dream of a Macedonian anonymous architect who has been hanging on tall buildings throughout the world as a façade worker for an intercontinental firm, Weltbauzeit. He wants to construct an eighth wonder of the world, Treetop of the World, a kind of a juke-box that will resound all of the 6703 languages on Earth, on Galicica Mt. between Lakes Ohrid and Prespa.
An allegory for modern civilization, the novel defines Macedonia as the venue where a new Utopia for salvation of humankind will be born. The question is whether it will come true? Everything depends on the final three seconds, three seconds in every man’s life.
The fiction is publised in Macedonia by publishing house Kultura, and also published in France by publishing house Le Table Ronde respectively.
